Who can use our services?
Any Hungarian or foreign citizen over 18 years of age, as well as any business registered in Hungary.
What documents are required for currency exchange?
For Hungarian citizens:
- Hungarian ID card AND official address card, OR
- Hungarian driver’s license AND official address card, OR
- Hungarian passport AND official address card
For foreign EU citizens:
- Valid passport, OR
- Hungarian ID card issued for foreign nationals, OR
- Valid residence permit
- National ID card
For foreign nationals from third countries (non-EU): :
- Valid passport, OR
- Hungarian ID card issued for foreign nationals, OR
- Valid residence permit
Is there a limit on how much currency can be exchanged at once?
There is no legal upper limit on the exchange amount. However, for transactions exceeding HUF 3,000,000, we recommend contacting us in advance. For exchanges of HUF 10,000,000 or more, legal regulations require proof of the source of funds and approval from MBH Bank. To ensure fast and smooth processing, please get in touch with us prior to your visit.
How can I request an individual (preferred) exchange rate?
We offer preferable custom exchange rates for larger transactions. Please contact us using any of our contact details!
Is it possible to exchange coins at Smart Change branches?
At our offices, we primarily exchange banknotes. We can only accept coins in Hungarian forints.
How much does currency exchange cost (handling fee)?
We charge a handling fee for currency exchange, up to a maximum of 35,000 Ft. The amount of this fee may vary, so we recommend that you check with our offices to find out the exact amount before making an exchange.
Can I pay by card?
Due to growing demand, we plan to introduce a POS service (credit card payments) in the future. Currently, cash payments are accepted.
How do I know which currency I need for my trip?
Before exchanging currency, it is advisable to check the official physical currency of your destination country. Although Euros or US Dollars are accepted in many places, paying in the local official currency is usually the most cost-effective option.
